Helping the Homeless in Our Community

Every night, right here in Federal Way, more than 100 people find themselves without a home - sleeping on streets, and in tents and cars. On the streets, they face physical harm, illness and a future where stability moves further out of reach the longer they are there.

All interested homeless men should contact the Multi-Service Center to learn about intake/screening times and places.

Reach Out

Reach Out is a ministry that partners with Federal Way churches and civic organizations to provide shelter and meals for about 25 homeless men in Federal Way. This winter it will operate November '09 through March '10.

This Winter we have two "host" churches for the program. Steel Lake Presbyterian will shelter the men for three months and Calvary Lutheran Church will host them for two months. The men will be provided with mats and sleeping blankets and a tote for storage.

"Meal support” churches will provide a hot dinner each evening, a breakfast for morning and a sack lunch for the men to take when they leave in the morning. Meals are being provided by the following churches:

To ensure effective screening and supervision, Reach Out partners with Multi-Service Center of Federal Way. Men will not be admitted to the program if Multi-Service Center (MSC) screening finds that they have a history of violent or predatory behavior. MSC also manages each man's case as well as the shelter site and provides referral services.

Your Part

You can volunteer or donate in the following ways to serve the homeless through Reach Out:

Be a host: Provide shelter and kitchen facilities each night for one or more months.
Be a “meal support” organization: Provide hot dinners, cold breakfasts and sack lunches each night for one or more months.
Donate cash, goods or services to support Reach Out’s operating needs.
